Anti-Wrinkle Injections Aftercare

What to do and avoid after anti-wrinkle injections, what’s normal in the first two weeks, and when to get in touch with the clinic.

Straight after treatment

There’s no real downtime, and most people go straight back to work or their normal day. A few simple steps help the treatment settle exactly where it was placed.

  • Stay upright and avoid lying down or bending over for around four hours.
  • Don’t rub, massage or press on the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Keep make-up off the injection points for the rest of the day, and apply it gently when you start again.
  • If the area feels tender, a cold compress for 10–15 minutes at a time can help. Always wrap ice in a clean cloth rather than putting it directly on the skin.
  • For mild discomfort, paracetamol is fine. Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen, which can make bruising more likely.

The first 24 hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting.
  • Avoid saunas, hot baths and strong heat.
  • Avoid alcohol, as it can increase bruising.
  • You can cleanse your skin gently as normal. Use a mild cleanser and avoid scrubbing.

What’s normal

  • Small raised bumps at the injection points for 15–20 minutes.
  • A little redness, usually gone within an hour.
  • Occasionally a small bruise, which fades within a few days.
  • Sometimes a mild headache in the first day or two.
  • The muscle relaxes gradually: first changes after two to three days, with the full effect at about two weeks. Results can look slightly uneven while they develop.

Longer term

  • Come back for your two-week review so John can check the result and fine-tune if needed.
  • Wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin.
  • Drink plenty of water and look after yourself generally — good skin health supports any treatment.
  • Results typically last three to four months, after which movement gradually returns. Repeat treatment can be planned with John.

Contact the clinic if…

  • You notice a drooping eyelid or a heavy brow.
  • There’s significant asymmetry after the first two weeks.
  • You have any difficulty swallowing or breathing — this needs urgent attention; call 999 if it’s severe.
  • You feel unwell, or anything at all worries you — we’d always rather hear from you.
