About Consultation
Every new NeoGen Plasma client starts here. Because plasma technology delivers energy directly to the skin's surface, we assess your skin type, medical history and suitability first, and treat a small patch so you — and we — can see exactly how your skin responds before any full treatment is booked.
It's free, there's no obligation, and you'll leave with a clear recommendation: the right area, the right energy level, the realistic result and the cost.

What is NeoGen?
NeoGen Plasma is a non-surgical skin regeneration treatment made by Energist in Swansea. It uses nitrogen plasma rather than a laser, light or injections to repair and renew your own skin, so results look natural: firmer, smoother, more even skin rather than added volume. It is cleared by the US FDA, and the manufacturer says over 500,000 treatments have been carried out worldwide.
- How it works
- NeoGen turns nitrogen gas into plasma and delivers it to the skin in millisecond pulses of controlled heat. That heat triggers your skin's natural healing response, which builds new collagen and elastin. Unlike ablative lasers, nothing is cut or vaporised: the treated outer layer stays in place and acts as a natural dressing while fresh skin forms underneath, then flakes away.
- What it treats
- Loose and crepey skin, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and enlarged pores, sun damage and uneven tone, acne scarring, and laxity around the eyes. It works on the face, eyes, neck, décolletage and body.
- Low or high energy
- Treatments are tailored. Lower-energy sessions are gentle with little recovery and are usually booked as a course (often three, about four weeks apart). A single higher-energy treatment gives a bigger change in one go, with more downtime.
- Downtime
- Low energy: pinkness and warmth like mild sunburn, then light flaking, typically settled in 2–4 days. High energy: the skin bronzes and peels, usually over about a week and occasionally up to two. Make-up and exercise wait until peeling has finished, and daily SPF 50 is essential afterwards.
- Results
- Skin looks fresher and brighter once it has healed, and many people notice changes within weeks. Firmness and texture keep improving for three to six months as new collagen forms; the manufacturer reports improvement continuing for up to a year or more.
- Who it suits
- NeoGen is safe for most skin types, with settings adjusted for darker skin. It isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection or cold sores, or soon after isotretinoin (Roaccutane). Your free consultation and patch test confirm it's right for you.

Is this treatment right for me?
Anyone considering NeoGen for the first time needs a consultation and patch test. It's how we keep the treatment safe and predictable, and it's the right place to discuss expectations, downtime and whether NeoGen, injectables or a combination will serve you best.
You may be suitable if…
- You're new to NeoGen Plasma
- You'd like to understand what it can achieve for your skin
- You want to see how your skin responds before committing
- You're comparing NeoGen with other treatments
Your consultation will consider…
- Skin type, tone and any tendency to pigmentation or scarring
- Medical history — pregnancy, isotretinoin, cold sores, light-sensitive conditions
- The area or combination you're interested in
- How much downtime fits your life, which guides the energy level
What to expect
Before treatment
Nothing to prepare — just arrive with clean skin if you can, and bring a note of any medication.
During treatment
Your practitioner talks through your concerns and history, examines the skin, and explains how NeoGen works and what's realistic for you. A small area — usually behind the ear or at the hairline — is then treated at a test setting so you can feel the sensation and we can observe the response. The appointment takes around 30 minutes.
After treatment
The patch may be slightly pink for a day and flake lightly over the following days. We'll check the response before your full treatment and confirm the plan, energy level and price.

Results & longevity
The consultation gives you a clear plan; the patch test shows how your skin heals and helps set the energy level for your full treatment. There's no visible cosmetic result from the patch itself beyond a small, healed test area.
Recovery, side effects & aftercare
A patch test involves a tiny treated area and essentially no downtime.
Side effects
A small patch of pinkness and light flaking is expected. Anything more would be noted and used to adjust your treatment plan.
Aftercare
Keep the patch moisturised and protected from the sun; don't pick any flaking.
Let us know how the patch heals — that's the point of it — and contact us if it looks inflamed or is slow to settle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the consultation really free?
Yes — consultation and patch test are free and carry no obligation to book treatment.
How long does it take?
Around 30 minutes, including the patch test.
How long after the patch test can I have treatment?
Usually one to two weeks, once we've seen how the patch has healed.
Can I book a treatment without a patch test?
Not for a first NeoGen treatment — the patch test is how we set the right energy for your skin safely.
Does NeoGen hurt?
With numbing cream, low-energy treatments feel warm with a light snapping and are very comfortable. Higher-energy treatments feel hotter for short bursts; your practitioner adjusts settings to keep you comfortable.
Is it suitable for darker skin?
NeoGen is used across all skin types. For darker skin tones, lower energy settings and strict sun protection are used to minimise any risk of pigment change, which is assessed at the patch test.
