About Face Lift
For skin that has become looser and less firm across the whole face, the Non-Surgical Face Lift applies NeoGen at a higher, tightening-focused energy to encourage contraction and remodelling as the skin heals. The result is firmer skin and a lifted-looking contour that continues to improve for months as new collagen forms. It's one of NeoGen's more involved single treatments and a genuine option to explore before considering surgery.
NeoGen converts nitrogen gas into plasma energy and delivers it to the skin in controlled pulses. The heat passes through the surface into the deeper layers, where it triggers a wound-healing response and new collagen — but the outer layer is left intact, acting as a natural dressing while the skin beneath regenerates. It's this combination of deep effect and protected surface that sets NeoGen apart from ablative lasers.

What is NeoGen?
NeoGen Plasma is a non-surgical skin regeneration treatment made by Energist in Swansea. It uses nitrogen plasma rather than a laser, light or injections to repair and renew your own skin, so results look natural: firmer, smoother, more even skin rather than added volume. It is cleared by the US FDA, and the manufacturer says over 500,000 treatments have been carried out worldwide.
- How it works
- NeoGen turns nitrogen gas into plasma and delivers it to the skin in millisecond pulses of controlled heat. That heat triggers your skin's natural healing response, which builds new collagen and elastin. Unlike ablative lasers, nothing is cut or vaporised: the treated outer layer stays in place and acts as a natural dressing while fresh skin forms underneath, then flakes away.
- What it treats
- Loose and crepey skin, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and enlarged pores, sun damage and uneven tone, acne scarring, and laxity around the eyes. It works on the face, eyes, neck, décolletage and body.
- Low or high energy
- Treatments are tailored. Lower-energy sessions are gentle with little recovery and are usually booked as a course (often three, about four weeks apart). A single higher-energy treatment gives a bigger change in one go, with more downtime.
- Downtime
- Low energy: pinkness and warmth like mild sunburn, then light flaking, typically settled in 2–4 days. High energy: the skin bronzes and peels, usually over about a week and occasionally up to two. Make-up and exercise wait until peeling has finished, and daily SPF 50 is essential afterwards.
- Results
- Skin looks fresher and brighter once it has healed, and many people notice changes within weeks. Firmness and texture keep improving for three to six months as new collagen forms; the manufacturer reports improvement continuing for up to a year or more.
- Who it suits
- NeoGen is safe for most skin types, with settings adjusted for darker skin. It isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection or cold sores, or soon after isotretinoin (Roaccutane). Your free consultation and patch test confirm it's right for you.

Is this treatment right for me?
This suits people with mild to moderate laxity across the face who'd like firmer, more lifted skin without surgery, and who can accommodate a few days of downtime. It isn't a surgical facelift; for significant sagging, your practitioner will explain the realistic outcome or suggest combining with threads or filler.
You may be suitable if…
- Your skin has become looser across the whole face
- You've noticed jowls, softer contours or sagging cheeks
- You want a non-surgical lift and can plan for a week of healing
- You've had your consultation and patch test
Your consultation will consider…
- Your skin type and how it responds at the patch test
- The right energy level — comfort and minimal downtime versus a stronger single treatment
- Medical history, including pregnancy, isotretinoin use and any light- or heat-sensitive conditions
- Whether a single session or a course of three best fits your goal
What to expect
Before treatment
Every NeoGen client starts with a free consultation and patch test. We assess your skin type, medical history and goals, agree the area and energy level, and treat a small test patch so you can see how your skin responds. On the day of treatment, arrive with clean skin; avoid retinol, acids, sun exposure and self-tan on the area for a week beforehand, and let us know about any medication.
During treatment
The skin is cleansed and a strong numbing cream is applied for around 30–45 minutes. Your practitioner then passes the NeoGen handpiece across the area in a series of pulses — most people describe a warm sensation and a light snapping. Low-energy treatments are very comfortable; higher-energy treatments feel hotter and are kept brief. Depending on the area, treatment takes 20–60 minutes.
After treatment
The skin will look red and feel warm and tight, like sunburn, and a cooling balm is applied before you leave. Over the next few days the treated surface darkens to a light bronze and then flakes away naturally, revealing the new skin beneath. Your practitioner goes through aftercare in detail and books a review.
Results & longevity
Results arrive in stages. Once the skin has healed — within one to two weeks — it looks brighter and smoother, with fine lines softened. The deeper changes then build as new collagen forms: most people see visible tightening and textural improvement between three and six months, with further gains through the first year. Because the collagen is your own, improvements in tone, texture and firmness are typically sustained for up to two years with good sun protection. A single higher-energy treatment or a course of three lower-energy sessions can both achieve this; your practitioner will recommend which suits you.
Recovery, side effects & aftercare
NeoGen's recovery depends on the energy used. Low-energy treatments give redness for a day or two and light flaking, with most people settled within two to four days. Higher-energy treatments produce more redness, a bronzed appearance and peeling, usually over about a week and occasionally up to two, and are worth planning around social commitments. Either way, the outer skin stays intact as a natural dressing, so healing is faster and more comfortable than with ablative resurfacing.
Side effects
Redness, warmth, tightness, mild swelling, bronzing and peeling are the expected effects and follow a predictable course. Skin can feel dry or itchy while it sheds. Less commonly, people notice temporary darkening or lightening of the skin (which is why sun protection matters), a breakout, or a cold-sore flare around the mouth in those prone to them. Infection, blistering or scarring are rare and are minimised by the patch test, appropriate energy settings and good aftercare.
Aftercare
Cleanse gently with a mild, non-foaming cleanser and keep the skin well moisturised with the balm we recommend — don't let it dry out. Don't pick, scrub or exfoliate the flaking skin; let it shed on its own. Avoid make-up until peeling has finished, avoid exercise, saunas and swimming while the skin is healing, and stay out of direct sun. Daily SPF 50 is essential for at least four weeks and strongly recommended long term, as new skin pigments easily.
Please contact the clinic if you notice blistering, oozing, spreading redness, increasing pain, or if healing seems to stall — early advice makes a difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much lift will I get?
A visible tightening and firming rather than a surgical-level lift. Results build over three to six months as collagen forms, and many people are surprised by how much the contour improves.
Can I combine NeoGen with injectables?
Often, yes — NeoGen improves skin quality while filler and anti-wrinkle treatment address volume and lines. Timing between treatments matters and is planned at consultation.
Does NeoGen hurt?
With numbing cream, low-energy treatments feel warm with a light snapping and are very comfortable. Higher-energy treatments feel hotter for short bursts; your practitioner adjusts settings to keep you comfortable.
When will I see results?
Skin looks fresher as soon as it has healed — the 'glow' phase in the first couple of weeks. The tightening and textural changes then build over three to six months as new collagen forms, and can continue improving for up to a year.
How long do results last?
Because NeoGen rebuilds your own collagen, results are long-lasting — improvements in tone, texture and firmness are typically sustained for up to two years with good sun protection and skincare.
What is the downtime?
Low energy: redness for a day or two and light flaking, typically settled in two to four days. High energy: bronzing and peeling, usually over about a week and occasionally up to two. The outer skin stays intact throughout, which keeps healing comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the area, the energy level and your goals. Some people see a good result from a single higher-energy session; others prefer a course of three lower-energy treatments, which carries a 20% saving. Your plan is agreed at consultation.
Why do I need a patch test?
It's standard practice for an energy-based treatment: a small test area shows how your skin responds before any full treatment, and lets us set the right energy for you. It's free and takes a few minutes.
