About Nose Reshaping

Non-surgical rhinoplasty — sometimes called a liquid nose job — uses small amounts of a firm hyaluronic acid filler to reshape the nose without surgery. It can smooth a bump on the bridge, lift a drooping tip, straighten the appearance of a crooked nose, define a flat bridge or correct asymmetry.

It works by adding rather than removing, so a bump is disguised by lifting the areas above and below it; the nose isn't made smaller, but it can look straighter and more refined. Results are immediate and, in experienced hands, remarkably natural.

Is this treatment right for me?

This suits people bothered by a bump, a drooping tip, asymmetry or a flat bridge who'd like a refinement without surgery. It can't reduce the overall size of the nose or narrow wide nostrils, and it needs particular care after previous nasal surgery — John will be frank about what's achievable.

You may be suitable if…

  • You have a bump or ridge on the bridge
  • Your tip droops or you'd like more definition
  • You have asymmetry or a crooked appearance
  • You want to avoid surgery or preview a change

Your consultation will consider…

  • The shape of the nose and what can realistically be improved by adding volume
  • Any previous nasal surgery, injury or nose filler — these change the safety plan
  • Skin thickness and blood supply in the area
  • How the change will balance with your chin and profile

What to expect

Before treatment

Treatment starts with a face-to-face consultation with John. He'll look at the area in the context of your whole face, talk through what you'd like to change and what would look natural for you, and check your medical history. For a week beforehand it helps to avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and supplements such as fish oil or vitamin E where safe to do so, as they increase bruising. Please don't book within two weeks of a dental procedure.

During treatment

The skin is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied for around 10–15 minutes; many modern fillers also contain a local anaesthetic. John then places the hyaluronic acid gel using a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the area, shaping and checking symmetry as he goes. You'll feel pressure and the occasional sting rather than pain. Most appointments take 30–45 minutes. The nose has an unforgiving blood supply, so John treats it with tiny, precise amounts placed slowly along the midline, checking the skin colour throughout.

After treatment

You'll see the change straight away, although the area will be a little swollen and the final shape settles over the next one to two weeks. John will go through aftercare, and you're welcome to book a review at two weeks if anything needs refining.

Results & longevity

You'll see the new shape as soon as the treatment is finished; mild swelling settles over one to two weeks. Because the nose barely moves and a firm filler is used, results typically last twelve to eighteen months and sometimes longer. Repeat treatment can usually be planned once the result begins to soften.

Recovery, side effects & aftercare

Downtime is minimal. Mild swelling, redness or a small bruise at the injection points are the usual effects and settle within a week. Please avoid glasses resting on the bridge for a week and don't have the nose massaged or pressed.

Side effects

Swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising are the common, expected effects and settle within days. Small lumps or slight unevenness can be felt in the first couple of weeks as the gel settles and usually resolve; anything persistent can be reviewed. Uncommon risks include infection, an allergic-type reaction, or the filler sitting in an unintended spot. Rarely, filler can affect a blood vessel — John uses techniques that minimise this, checks for warning signs before you leave, and the clinic stocks the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid so it can be treated immediately.

Aftercare

Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the area for 24–48 hours unless John has asked you to. Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and alcohol for 48 hours, and sleep slightly elevated on the first night to limit swelling. A cool (not frozen) compress helps if the area feels tender. Don't have facials, dental work or other treatments on the area for two weeks, and keep make-up off the injection points for the rest of the day.

Please contact the clinic straight away if you notice unusual or increasing pain, skin that looks blotchy, white or dusky, blistering, spreading redness, or any change to your vision. Ordinary swelling and bruising don't need a call, but you're always welcome to check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it make my nose smaller?

No — filler adds. But by lifting the areas around a bump or raising the tip, the nose can look straighter and more refined, which often reads as smaller.

Is it safe?

The nose has a delicate blood supply, so this is a treatment for experienced hands. John uses small volumes, slow placement and constant checks, and keeps the dissolving enzyme in clinic. Risks are discussed fully at consultation.

Can I wear glasses afterwards?

Please avoid glasses or sunglasses resting on the bridge for about a week so the filler isn't pressed while it settles.

I've had surgery on my nose before — is it still possible?

Sometimes, but the risk profile changes because the blood supply may have been altered. Please tell John so he can assess properly.

Does it hurt?

A numbing cream is applied first and most fillers contain a local anaesthetic, so you'll feel pressure and the occasional sting rather than pain. The area may feel tender for a day or two afterwards.

Can it be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed, which is one of the reasons we use it. John keeps it in clinic.

Can I go back to work afterwards?

Usually, yes. There may be some swelling and occasionally a bruise, so if you have an important event it's worth allowing a week or two for everything to settle.
