About Milia & Spots

Milia are tiny, hard, pearly-white bumps that sit just under the skin, most often around the eyes, cheeks and forehead. They're pockets of trapped keratin rather than spots, which is why they never come to a head and can't be squeezed out. Blocked pores, blackheads and the occasional stubborn spot are a similar story: the contents are trapped and picking at them tends to spread bacteria and leave marks.

Cinzia clears them properly. After cleansing and warming the skin, each milium is released through a tiny opening made with a sterile lancet, and congested pores and spots are extracted with gentle, controlled pressure using a sterile tool. The skin is then calmed and protected. Treating them this way removes the blemish cleanly and avoids the scarring and pigmentation that come from squeezing at home.

Is this treatment right for me?

This suits milia, blackheads, blocked pores and the occasional whitehead on otherwise healthy skin. It isn't a treatment for active, inflamed acne, cysts, cold sores or infected skin, which need to settle or be treated medically first.

You may be suitable if…

  • You have small white milia around the eyes, cheeks or forehead
  • You have blackheads or congested pores that skincare hasn't shifted
  • You have a few stubborn spots rather than widespread acne
  • Your skin isn't currently inflamed, sunburnt or broken

Your consultation will consider…

  • Medical history, including pacemakers, diabetes, blood thinners and pregnancy
  • Skin type, healing and any tendency to pigmentation or keloid scarring
  • Confirmation that the blemish is benign and suitable to treat
  • How many sessions are likely to be needed

What to expect

Before treatment

Everything starts with a consultation, where Cinzia checks the blemishes are milia or congestion rather than something that needs medical assessment. Avoid retinoids, acids and exfoliating for a few days beforehand, and arrive without make-up if you can.

During treatment

The skin is cleansed and gently warmed to soften the pores. Each milium is released through a tiny opening made with a sterile lancet, and blocked pores and spots are extracted with controlled pressure using a sterile tool. Cinzia works carefully and stops if the skin is becoming irritated. Most sessions take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many blemishes there are.

After treatment

A soothing, antibacterial product is applied and the skin is protected with SPF. The treated points look a little pink for a few hours.

Results & longevity

Milia and extracted spots are gone immediately; the skin looks clearer as any pinkness settles over a day or two. A single session usually clears what's there, but milia can form again — especially with heavy creams, sun damage or certain skin types — so some people book a follow-up every few months. Cinzia will suggest skincare changes to help keep them away.

Recovery, side effects & aftercare

The treated points will look slightly red or raised immediately afterwards, then tiny dry scabs form over the next day or two. Any tiny marks settle within a few days to a week.

Side effects

Redness, slight swelling and small scabs are expected. Less commonly, temporary darker or lighter marks can appear where the skin healed (more likely with sun exposure or picking), and, rarely, a small scar. Infection is uncommon with good aftercare.

Aftercare

Keep the area clean and dry, and don't touch or pick the scabs — let them fall away naturally. For 48 hours avoid make-up on the area, perfumed products, exfoliation, skin acids, saunas, steam and swimming. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily until fully healed, and avoid sunbeds and tanning.

Please contact the clinic if the area becomes increasingly painful, hot or swollen, weeps, shows signs of infection, or hasn't healed within three to four weeks.

Downtime

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes milia?

Trapped keratin under the skin. They're common after sun damage, with rich or heavy creams, after skin trauma or peels, and in some skin types for no obvious reason. They're harmless but don't go away on their own easily.

Can I squeeze them myself?

Please don't. Milia have no opening, so squeezing damages the skin around them and can leave marks or scars. Extraction with a sterile lancet removes them cleanly.

Does it hurt?

You'll feel a brief scratch or pinch at each point. Sessions are short and most people find it very manageable without numbing.

How many can be treated in one session?

Usually everything that's there, within a 15- or 30-minute session. If there are a lot, or the skin becomes irritated, Cinzia may split the work over two visits.

Will they come back?

The ones removed won't, but new milia can form over time. Lighter skincare, regular gentle exfoliation and daily SPF help, and a quick top-up session clears any that return.

Is this suitable for acne?

It's for milia, blackheads, congested pores and the odd stubborn spot. Active, inflamed acne needs a different approach — Cinzia can advise at consultation.
