About Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides are fragments of DNA, purified from salmon, that closely match our own. Injected into the skin, they act as a signal for repair: fibroblast cells are stimulated to produce collagen and elastin, inflammation calms and hydration improves. The result is skin that's stronger, thicker and more even — particularly useful for thin, crepey or sun-damaged skin.
Because they regenerate rather than fill, polynucleotides are used across the face and neck, and are a favourite for delicate areas where filler isn't appropriate.

Key Benefits
- 01Stimulates your own collagen and elastin for firmer, thicker skin
- 02Improves texture, tone and fine lines
- 03Calms redness and supports skin repair
- 04Helps sun damage, scarring and enlarged pores
- 05Suitable for delicate areas including around the eyes
- 06Natural, regenerative approach with no added volume
Is this treatment right for me?
Polynucleotides suit people whose skin looks thin, tired, crepey or uneven, and anyone who wants to improve skin health rather than change shape. They're often recommended for the face and neck as a whole, with a dedicated under-eye protocol for that area.
You may be suitable if…
- Your skin has lost thickness, bounce or evenness
- You have fine lines, crepiness or early laxity
- You have scarring, sun damage or enlarged pores
- You're not pregnant or breastfeeding and have no fish allergy
Your consultation will consider…
- Skin thickness, texture and any sun damage or scarring
- Whether the face, neck or under-eyes are the priority
- A fish allergy, which rules polynucleotides out
- The number of sessions — usually a course of three
What to expect
Before treatment
Your consultation with John looks at skin quality — hydration, fine lines, laxity and texture — and your goals, and checks your medical history. Skin boosters are a course rather than a one-off, so you'll leave with a plan for the number and spacing of sessions. For a few days before, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and supplements such as fish oil where safe to do so, as they increase bruising.
During treatment
After numbing cream, John places a series of small, shallow injections across the treatment area. Each leaves a small bump that settles within hours. A face and neck treatment takes around 30 minutes.
After treatment
Expect small bumps and mild redness at the injection points for a few hours. The regenerative effect builds gradually over the weeks that follow.
Watch
Results & longevity
Early improvements in hydration and glow can be seen within a week or two; the structural changes — firmer, thicker, more even skin — develop over two to three months as collagen and elastin are laid down. A course of three sessions, two to four weeks apart, gives the best result, with effects typically lasting six to nine months before a maintenance session.
Recovery, side effects & aftercare
Downtime is minimal for face and neck treatment: small bumps and some redness for a few hours, and the occasional bruise. The skin may feel slightly tight for a day.
Side effects
Small raised bumps at the injection points are expected and usually flatten within hours; occasionally they take a day or two. Redness, tenderness and small bruises are common and short-lived. Uncommon effects include a lump that persists longer, mild infection, or an allergic-type reaction. Because these products are hyaluronic acid or naturally derived, serious reactions are rare.
Aftercare
Leave the injection points alone for the rest of the day — no make-up, no touching or massaging unless John has asked you to. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam and alcohol for 24 hours, and stay out of strong sun. Keep the skin well moisturised and use SPF daily; it protects the result.
Please contact the clinic if you notice spreading redness, increasing pain, a lump that grows rather than settles, or any skin colour change.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are polynucleotides different from a skin booster like Profhilo?
Profhilo hydrates and stimulates collagen through hyaluronic acid. Polynucleotides work by signalling the skin's own repair cells, so they're particularly good for thin, damaged or inflamed skin. The two can be combined.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually three, spaced two to four weeks apart, then a maintenance session every six to nine months.
Is it safe if I'm allergic to fish?
Polynucleotides are derived from salmon, so a fish allergy means we'd recommend an alternative. Please mention it at consultation.
Can it be used under the eyes?
Yes — we have a dedicated under-eye polynucleotide treatment, which is often better than filler for thin or crepey under-eye skin.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first. Each injection is a brief sting, and most people find the treatment very tolerable.
When can I wear make-up?
The next day. Keep the injection points clean and uncovered for the rest of the treatment day.
What happens at the consultation?
